Hello and welcome!
We know that you, as caregivers, want to help your teens learn about digital safety so they can manage their online presence, both now and as they grow into adulthood.
This Parents and Guardian’s Guide is designed to provide an overview of MemeTribes and the many tools and controls we’ve built into the product to keep our community safe. The guide also provides general information on common internet safety concerns.
Reviewing this guide, and our Community Guidelines with your teen can help your family establish ongoing dialogue about safety in our digital world. Hosting candid family conversations about the ways in which your teen engages online, including and beyond MemeTribes, will help bolster their sense of digital citizenship and empower them to be mindful of their own safety on the internet.
MemeTribes is a free meme and content social sharing app available on mobile. People can upload photos or videos to our service and share them with their followers or with a selected group of friends. They can also view, comment and like posts shared by their friends on MemeTribes. Anyone aged 13 and over can create an account by registering an email address and selecting a username.

We appreciate your concern for your child's use of our app, but unfortunately we can't give you access to the account or take any action on the account at your request. We're generally forbidden by privacy laws against giving unauthorised access to someone who isn't an account holder.
Please note that all users aged 13 and older are considered authorised account holders and are included in the scope of this policy. MemeTribes requires everyone to be at least 13 years old before they create an account (in some areas, the age limit may be higher). You can learn more about how to report underage accounts.
If you are concerned about your teen on MemeTribes, you can follow the the information this page.
We work hard to keep MemeTribes a safe and enjoyable place for everyone. Please take a minute to read through these tips about the tools that we've built and the best practices that we've defined to help you stay safe on the MemeTribes Platform:
If someone is sharing photos or videos that make you uncomfortable, you can unfollow or block them. You can also report something that you feel violates our Community Guidelines right from the app.
Make sure that you know whether your account is public or private. When you set your posts to private, anyone who wants to see your posts, followers or following list will have to send you a follow request first.
If someone is bullying you, contact a trusted family member or teacher for help. You can also remove a comment from a photo that you've shared and report bullying and harassment by emailing [email protected]
Make sure that you're comfortable letting the photos and videos that you share represent who you are to a wide audience, such as your parents, teachers or employers.
Never agree to do something or share anything that makes you uncomfortable.
Note: If someone is under 16 when they sign up for a MemeTribes account, private will be selected by default and cannot be changed until they are over 16. If they're over 16, their MemeTribes account is public by default and they can choose to make their account private at any time.
Anyone on MemeTribes can view photos or videos on someone's public profile. However, there are several ways that your teen can make their account more private.
Set Photos and Videos to Private. If your teen sets their photos and videos to private, only approved followers will be able to see them. Anyone who wants to see your teen's photos and videos will have to send them a follower request which your teen can then approve or ignore.
Remove Followers. If your teen has set their photos and videos to private, they'll be able to remove followers.
Block People. Your teen can also block people on MemeTribes. When they block another person, that person can't view your teen's photos or videos or search for their MemeTribes account.
MemeTribes removes posts that don't follow our Terms and Conditions, based on laws in specific jurisdictions. To report an account that has shared photos of your child without your permission contact us via [email protected].
Please note that you don't need to have a MemeTribe account to submit a report, but you do need to provide a link to the photo or video that you're reporting. Bear in mind that people own the rights to all images that they've taken and shared with MemeTribes.
If there's no violation of our Community Guidelines or Terms and Conditions, we can't help you directly unless required to do so by law.
We know and appreciate that many parents use MemeTribes to capture and share photos of their children. However, images that show nudity may be removed because they don't follow our Community Guidelines. We understand that people have different ideas about what's okay to share on MemeTribes and that many people share things with good intentions. To help keep MemeTribes a fun and safe place, we require everyone to follow our Community Guidelines and we may remove content to help keep others from possibly reusing these types of images in inappropriate ways.
We ask that all people follow our Community Guidelines and Terms and Conditions. If your teen encounters someone on MemeTribes who's not following these guidelines or Terms, they can report that person's posts directly from MemeTribes. People can report abusive behaviour or posts with our built-in reporting. This includes nude photos, abuse and excessive spam. Reporting is totally anonymous. No information about the reporter is sent to the person whose account or photo has been reported.
For more information about how to report content please see our Reporting page.
MemeTribes requires everyone to be at least 13 years old before they can create an account (in some jurisdictions, this age limit may be higher). Accounts that represent someone under the age of 13 must clearly state in the account's bio that the account is managed by a parent or manager. If your child is younger than 13 and has an account that isn't managed by you or a manager, you can show them how to delete their account.
If you'd like to report an account belonging to someone under 13, or if you believe someone is impersonating your child who's under 13, please email us at [email protected]. We will delete the account if we can't verify that the account is managed by someone over 13 years old.
We ask for and use age-related information from people using our platform for age verification and other purposes, including to help ensure compliance with our Terms and Conditions. These initiatives are part of our efforts to promote safety, security and integrity.
If an account is established with the intent of bullying or harassing another person or if a photo or comment is intended to bully or harass someone, please report it by emailing [email protected]. You can also learn what to do if you think that someone is pretending to be you or someone else on MemeTribes by visiting our Reporting page.
Once you've reported the abuse, consider blocking the person.
MemeTribes can be downloaded from the App Store, Google Play Store and other official application platforms. MemeTribes has a 12+ rating in the Apple App Store and is listed as “Parental Guidance Recommended” in Google’s Play Store. If you don’t want your teen to download MemeTribes, these ratings mean you can prevent them from doing so using the parental controls available via these stores or platforms.
To sign up for MemeTribes, people must accept the Terms and Conditions, which state that they must be over the age of 13 (or the applicable age in their country), and provide confirmation in the app during signup that they are old enough to view mature content (if applicable).
If we believe someone under 13 (in some jurisdictions, this age limit may be different), is using MemeTribes, we’ll ban their account and they may appeal if they think we have made a mistake. If you’re the parent, guardian, or other trusted adult of a teen whose account we ban, they may ask you to help them submit an appeal. If your teen decides to appeal their ban, we’ll give them some options for confirming their date of birth. To submit an appeal, your teen must open MemeTribes, tap “Appeal” and follow the instructions provided. In certain countries, one of the options they may choose will require them to upload a photo of themselves with their parent, guardian, or other trusted adult who confirms their date of birth.
MemeTribes is only for those aged at least 13 (in some jurisdictions, this age limit may be higher), and it’s important that your teen provides their real date of birth. From restricting access to certain features to tailoring the ads people can see, accurate information helps ensure community members have the correct age-appropriate experience. For example, in addition to our age requirement, we do not allow younger people on MemeTribes to use age-restricted features such as the ability to use Direct Messaging.

Offering a safe and supportive environment is our top priority. We believe that feeling safe is essential to helping people feel comfortable with expressing themselves openly and creatively. We remove content, including images, video, audio, comments and text that violate our Community Guidelines, and accounts involved in severe or repeated violations. Under certain circumstances, we will go one step further and report the accounts to relevant legal authorities to keep our community safe. Our Community Guidelines apply to everyone, and to everything shared on MemeTribes.
You have rights and choices when it comes to your information. You may be afforded certain rights under applicable laws, which may include the right to access, delete, update, or rectify your data, to be informed of the processing of your data, to file complaints with authorities, and potentially other rights.
